As Wufei was thinking, Duo had evidently decided that he had had enough of lying down on his back and attempted to get up. Attempted being the keyword there. Just as Duo got his legs beneath him, his knees decided that they didn't want to support him anymore and collapsed on him. Duo looked peeved as Wufei started to chuckle, then laugh. His eyes narrowed playfully.

"Is something funny Chang?" He asked in a play-full tone of voice.

Wufei tried to stop laughing, but he couldn't. Duo was delighted, he had never seen the chinese boy so open!! Kurama just shook his head and smiled at their antics. Wufei's reply was cut short as Hiei dropped in, quite literally. He landed on the ground with a sickening thud as the others watched in shock. Kurama was the first to reach Hiei, though Wufei wasn't that far behind. As Kurama turned him over, it became apparent why Hiei had fallen. Hiei had been gutted by a very sharp object, though what kind of an object they couldn't tell. Kurama and Wufei quickly began to staunch the flow of blood as Duo wobbled his way over and put Hiei's head in his lap. Duo was startled when his eyes opened and started to look for something or someone, but he was even more startled when they stopped on the kitsune and a brief flash of what looked like relief showed. Anyone not used to looking for emotion from stoic people would have missed it, but Duo was a former street-brat used to reading Heero and Trowa so he had plenty of practice at gleaming the least bit of emotion shown. Duo gave a small grin. He was glad Kurama had someone, he reminded Duo of his other, his twin. Duo's eyes darkened in remembered pain, he had almost not survived his twins death. He certainly hadn't survived with all of his sanity intact, and the only thing that kept the total insanity at bay was the fact that he didn't think about it. That was why he was constantly chattering away at anything and everything, and always bugging the other pilots. Duo shook himself as he looked down and tried a mental link to see if he could find out what happened to get him in this state.

'Who are you?' a voice asked suspiciously.

Duo assumed that it was Hiei. After all, who else could it be? It was his mind after all. 'My name is Duo, I'm only here to find out what happened and if there is anything we need to prepare for,' he stated in an unthreatening manner, he didn't want Hiei to think that he was an enemy.

'Hn,' was the only thing he heard before a bombardment of information hit him and sent him reeling.

'Gee, that didn't sound a bit like Heero,' Duo thought absently, still slightly in shock over the sudden influx of information. He quickly checked to see what was happening in the world then came back. 'Well, they're still busy out there, so I think that'll stay in here if that's okay with you?'

The 'hn' was followed by a feeling of impatience, annoyance, and a little bit of, was that curiosity?

'Thanks, I don't like to be alone, it... it hurts.......' Duo's voice dwindled off.

For some reason Hiei decided that he would answer, telling himself it was only because he was curious. 'Why does it hurt?'

'Because when I'm alone I can't stop remembering' Duo's voice held infinite sadness, pain and was that horror that he felt? Hiei felt himself wondering what had caused that pain.

'Remembering what?' He found himself asking, almost involuntarily.

Hiei was hit with a storm of memories....... memories that were eerily familiar to him, though his twin wasn't lost forever to him like Duo's was. She might as well be considering that he was denied ever being able to tell her who he was though. Hiei felt himself empathizing with the young dragon, they both had similar backgrounds and experiences.

The next time that Duo checked with Kurama and Wufei, they had almost finished healing Hiei. He and Hiei had grown closer, and he was loath to leave when he had finally found someone who could at least come close to understanding the pain of loosing their twin, their other half.
