Destiny Bites

Chapter 2

If anyone could have seen the redhead sprawled on the queen sized bed, hair loose and spread over the pillows, grin on his face, they would have thought he was either a little crazy or planning something mischievous.

Luc didn't care.

This was the first time in a long while that he was able to stay in bed because he wanted to. Not because of his heart. And not because he was pretending to be sick to get away from his greedy family.

Although he had lazed around in bed, he had not been idle. He already had an appointment with a doctor, a real estate agent and a banker. All for tomorrow morning. Right now he was free to do what he wanted and he wanted to go explore.

Almost bouncing out of bed, Luc didn't take long to clean up and get dressed. It was time for him enjoy the freedom he now had for as long as he was able. Maybe he would get lucky and find a companion for the night. He would have to ask the concierge what was available in the area.Just having someone to spend some time with would be wonderful. Maybe to take them to dinner and a bar of some kind. And if something more came of it?

Luc chuckled to himself. If his family was right, no one in their right mind would want to be intimate with him. He looked as unhealthy as he was.

Shrugging, Luc decided he really didn't care what his family said. When he looked in the mirror, his reflection didn't seem to be that bad. Heck, there were times, like today, he thought he looked pretty darn good. Especially for someone with a bad heart.

Smiling in anticipation, Luc left his room with a bounce in his step. Catching the elevator to the main floor, he headed directly to the concierge to get some good ideas for a first time tourist. It was hard for him to believe he was actually free to do as he pleased, but he was definitely sure he could get used to it.

As he turned the corner, he came to a sudden stop. Cocking his head to the side, he studied the man coming towards him carefully. He looked just like the man at the airport. Very dark. Very sleek looking. Very drool worthy.

Jerrod had found out where the cab had taken the redhead. Although it had taken him a while to secure the knowledge, since it had to do it discretely, the thrill of the hunt was rushing through his body. He hadn't felt this kind of anticipation in more years than he cared to count. Now it was time to find out more about that human.

The aura around that human aura had felt... Well, it had felt powerful... And something else. Jerrod knew there was something special about that aura, but he couldn't remember what it was. And there was no way he was going to leave Australia without finding out.

He knew it was important.

That's why he was now in the Regal Hotel. The very expensive Regal Hotel.

Eyebrows raised, Jerrod looked around and smirked. The human must have serious money to burn. Either that or his family did.

Casually strolling to the front desk, Jerrod smiled at the clerk. The girl's face brightened as she almost stuttered in her eagerness to be helpful. He didn't have to use much power to find out what room the redhead was in and get the room next door. Having such distinctive hair made the human that much easier to find.

Palming his card key, Jerrod headed for the elevators. The hunt was on. He just hoped the human would not disappoint him.

Turning the corner to reach the elevators, Jerrod almost came to a stop. There he was. And Jerrod could swear the redhead recognized him.

Slowing his steps, he stopped in front of the human and smiled.

Voice husky with suppressed eagerness, Jerrod spoke first. "Hello."

Luc's eyebrows rose in surprise as the velvet tone of the stranger's voice seemed to caress him. Tongue darting out to lick suddenly dry lips, responded softly. "Hello to you too."

Jerrod's smile widened. "Looks like you are heading out for some exploring. Would you like a guide?"

Luc blinked.

A tiny smirked appeared on his face as he looked into the eyes of the man before him. "If you are going to offer your services as my guide, I will have to have references first."

Jerrod laughed softly. Offering his hand to shake, Jerrod introduced himself. "I'm Jerrod Davenport. There are a few people around here that should be more than happy to give me a good reference."

Luc grinned and took the offered hand. "I'm Luc..." Whatever else he was going to say got stuck in his throat the minute their hands touched. The shock he felt wasn't unpleasant. Just startling. And...and warm.

Yanking his hand back, Luc looked at Jerrod dazedly. "Whoa. What the heck was that?"

The feeling their touch had caused was fantastic. Giving Luc a pleased grin, Jerrod just shook his head. "I'm thinking that was a sign that you and I will get along famously."
