Destiny Bites

Chapter 3

Author: Reshenna Andrews

It didn’t take Luc long to find out just how well known Jerrod was or…Shaking his head in bemusement, Luc couldn’t help but compare Jerrod’s attitude with those of some of his family. Arrogant was probably the best description. Yet, Jerrod was not mean in his arrogance and that was the only reason Luc didn’t just walk away.

Well that and the fact that he wanted to know why he had such a reaction just by touching Jerrod’s hand.

Jerrod, on the other hand, had no doubt that the human was dazzled by him. Who wouldn’t be? After all, he was handsome, rich and one of the best things on this planet.

Taking for granted that the human would be thrilled by his attention, Jerrod grinned down him as he tucked the human’s hand under his arm and headed them out the door.

The amusement in the human’s eyes stopped him in his tracks for a moment.

He was laughing at him?

Blinking in astonishment, Jerrod headed them both to a quiet spot to talk. He had to know why this human was amused. That was not the reaction he had expected.

By the time they sat down, Jerrod had become a bit morose. Almost pouting because of his displeasure.

Luc chuckled. “Did you honestly think all that mattered to me?”

Glancing at the human quickly, Jerrod opened his mouth to make a scathing response, but stopped. There was no malice or disgust on the human’s face. In fact…

Deciding to be honest, Jerrod nodded. “Of course. Isn’t that all that matters?”

Luc chuckled again. “Of course not.

Leaning across the small table, Luc tapped Jerrod’s chest over the heart. “This is what matters. The rest of the stuff is just icing and icing can’t hide the taste underneath for very long.”

Jerrod knew he was probably gaping like a fish, but he couldn’t help it. Oh, he had heard similar words before, but this was the first time he could feel real sincerity behind them. This human…Luc meant what he said. No doubt about it.

Really looking at Luc for the first time, Jerrod searched the face before him. Besides being a gorgeous face, the eyes were beautifully clear and honest.

Jerrod finally smiled his first genuine smile of the day. “You amaze me.”

Dropping all pretenses, the men almost made the small cafÉ table their home for the day.

They drank coffee and talked. Refilled their cups and talked some more.

Luc told Jerrod why he was here and what had happened to chase him away from his home. He never mentioned his bad heart.

Jerrod told Luc about his real childhood and why he had been leaving the city. He never mentioned that he was not human.

Neither was ready to reveal all. No matter how strong the bond between them felt. The trust was not there yet.

By the time they felt they knew all they were going to get from one another, they had finished dinner too. They grinned at each other with mutual mischievousness.

“Think we should give them back their table?”

“I don’t know. I think we make a very gorgeous decoration.”

A small chuckle.

“But they are starting to look a bit irritated.”

“Bah! They know better than to give me a hard time.”

Shaking his head, Luc pushed back his chair. “You depend too much on your reputation, Mr. This is my first day here and I may want to come back without you. It’d be nice if they would let me come back if I so choose.”

Jerrod only focused on one thing. “Without me? That’s….that’s not an option anymore.”

Luc’s eyebrows rose the same time his body rose from the chair. “It isn’t? And why, pray tell, is that?”

“Because I just found you. You’re mine now. It isn’t proper for you to do anything without me.”

Luc just stared at Jerrod before bursting out into laughter. “Belong to you? Aren’t you jumping the gun here just a bit? We just met.”

Jerrod stood up and glared at Luc, not understanding the human’s reaction. He had felt it too, so why was he laughing?

“How can you laugh? Are you going to tell me you didn’t feel anything when we touched? That you haven’t felt something during our time together today?”

Luc straightened out his face with an effort. “No, I’m not saying that. I’m just saying that I don’t belong to you. I have indeed enjoyed our time together but that doesn’t mean we are now attached.”

Jerrod felt like pouting like a little kid. He had never had anyone not be thrilled to know he liked them. And this human laughed.

Luc had to bite his lip to keep from laughing again as Jerrod’s bottom lip jutted out. The man acted like a kid that had just had his favorite toy taken away.

“Look Jerrod. I’ve had a really good time so far. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever spoken so freely with someone I had just met before. I’d like to continue the night in the same vein, but I don’t want you to get the wrong idea.”

Jerrod’s face cleared. He just knew that Luc would realize the truth of his words before the night was over. He would make sure of that. One way or another.

Luc was his. And it would be for an eternity if Jerrod had anything to say about it. He would rather not force the issue, but he wasn’t about to let Luc go. Whatever power the human possessed was too rare to just throw away.

Hiding his smirk, Jerrod offered Luc his arm. “The night is indeed still young. Let’s put it to bed together.”
