Destiny Bites
Chapter 5
Author: Reshenna Andrews
Jerrod was feeling pretty smug by the time he left his house. Showing the twins just how much sexual pleasure they could get from just him feeding, had been…well, it had been fun.
Not that he had used all his power. That would have been a mistake.
Sobering quickly, Jerrod wondered when he had last worried about the consequences of such an act. When had he stopped thinking of humans as anything but irritating or beneath his notice or…or cattle?
Snorting in disgust, Jerrod had to admit that it had been a while. It wasn’t as if he had harmed anyone, it was just the fact that he hadn’t really thought about it. As if it hadn’t really mattered one way or another.
One evening with a very special human had been enough to make him step back a little and look at his volunteers a bit differently. Taking the time to see that the young men he had left sated and exhausted in his bed were individual beings. And that had made a distinct difference.
He had fun this morning. He had actually laughed with the twins and enjoyed showing them that helping him meet his sustenance requirements could be very pleasurable indeed. He even did it without overdoing it so the pleasure from normal sexual intercourse would not be overshadowed by the intense pleasure only beings such as he could give.
Smiling, Jerrod had to admit he was quite proud of himself. Maybe he wasn’t so jaded after all.

Even though he hadn’t gotten a full night’s sleep, Luc was feeling pretty good this morning. He was eager to get the mundane things out of the way so he could get back and rest some more. He wanted to be rested enough to be able to enjoy the full night of plans he and Jerrod had made.
So a nap was definitely a must, but right now...? Well, right now he had to find his new lawyer’s office.
He had already listened to the depressing, but not new, news that, yes, the muscles around his heart were still deteriorating, and, no, there wasn’t a known cure yet. And if that hadn’t dampened his good mood, then he didn’t think there was anything the lawyer could tell him that would either.
Jerrod’s good mood deteriorated as he watched Luc come out of the doctor’s office. The doctor was known to be one of the best heart specialists in the city. So what was wrong with Luc’s heart?
He knew he should wait and let Luc tell him on his own. He knew that letting Luc know he was being followed was a bad idea. But he couldn’t help it. He had to know.
Luc tried to act nonchalant as he tried to find Jerrod. He knew the sweet idiot was out there somewhere. He could feel the distinct presence that could only belong to Jerrod. It made him tingle.
Luc knew he should be angry that Jerrod was following him. He hadn’t really wanted to mention anything about his bad heart this early in their relationship,
but …Sighing, he just shook his head.
When Jerrod seemed to just pop up in front of him, Luc gave him a wry smile. “Wondered how long it would take you to show yourself.”
Jerrod’s eyebrows rose in surprise. “You knew I was here?”
Luc smirked. “Of course. I felt your presence a few hours ago.”
Jerrod smiled in delight. “That’s wonderful. I knew we were meant to be together.”
Luc laughed. “Whoa there. Just because I can tell when you are close doesn’t mean that we were meant to be together.”
Jerrod sighed and just looked at Luc quietly for a moment. “Actually it does. I think you and I need to have a serious talk. If you are willing to trust me with your secrets, I am willing to trust you with mine.”
“I’m not too sure I have any secrets left.”
Jerrod snorted softly. “Sure you do. I didn’t go in and pry any information out of the doctor as to why you were in there. I don’t know why you are here to see a lawyer.”
Jerrod’s eyes widened in sudden alarm. “Are you here to do a will or something?”
Luc smiled as he placed a calming hand on Jerrod’s shoulder. “I’m afraid that I will have to say yes to that question, but that’s not the only reason I am here.”
Jerrod inhaled sharply. That really wasn’t what he wanted to hear, but now was not the time to discuss this. “Who are you going to see?”
“His name is Johnathan Francs.”
Jerrod nodded. He had heard of the man and, while he wasn’t a bad lawyer, he wanted the best for his soon-to-be mate. “If you will trust me on this, I would like to give you the name of a better lawyer.”
Luc’s eyebrow rose. “Really? Why?”
Jerrod shrugged. “While I don’t know all the reasons why you need a lawyer, I do know that Sam Pierson is a much better lawyer than Francs will ever be. He is someone you can trust to do his best for your sake. Once he accepts a client, he will do whatever is in his power to fulfill their needs.”
Both of Luc’s eyebrows rose at that. “That’s an exceptional referral. The only problem I have is that I need to see a lawyer pretty quickly. Today, if at all possible.”
Jerrod smiled. “If you will cancel your appointment with Mr. Francs, I will see how quickly Sam can fit you in. Will you do that?”
Needless to say Luc did do as Jerrod suggested. How could he not? He could tell Jerrod truly wanted to help. Having someone care this deeply, and in such a short time, was … well it was mind boggling. And the most fantastic part of it was the fact that Luc cared just as much.
Luc was having a difficult time figuring this out. How could he care for someone he barely knew? How could Jerrod? Snorting softly to himself, Luc gave Jerrod a sideways glance as they headed to his new lawyer’s office. There was something binding them together. It was something he had never felt before. Not even with someone he had thought he was in love with. This was definitely something he wanted to learn more about before it was too late.
Halting in front of Sam’s office, Jerrod practically beamed at Luc. “Here you go! This is the best lawyer in this area. He will take good care of you.”
Luc shook his head and smiled back. “You are going to have to tell me how you arranged this on such short notice and anything you’ve been hiding from me later. Right?”
Jerrod nodded eagerly, focusing on the fact that Luc had said later. He hadn’t screwed things up after all. “Oh, I will. Just as you will tell me everything you’ve been hiding from me. No more secrets. Okay?”
